Welcome to Troop 60

To the prospective new Scout and his parents.

On behalf of all the Scouts and leaders I want to welcome you to Troop 60. With advisement and help from the Troop adults our Scouts run a very good program. You will certainly have a good time. This page provides you some information about Troop 60 and our expectations of you as a Scout.

We meet every Tuesday night, year round, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We also have an outing every month of the year.

The Troop Rules and Regulations is available on the "Troop Rules" webpage.

Our Troop follows the Boy Scout Patrol Method. Four to eight Scouts form a Patrol, and several Patrols make up the Troop. We will work with you to assign you to a patrol with kids that are your age.

As a Scout, you should observe the following:

  1. Troop 60 requires that a parent/guardian of each child is to be present on each troop outing. Outing is defined as any activity other than Troop Tuesday night meetings such as campouts, service projects, etc. (This does not include Troop Tuesday night meetings, although parent/guardians are certainly welcome to attend.) If a Scout's parent/guardian cannot attend a outing then it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ask another troop adult to accept responsibility for their child during the outing and to notify the Scoutmaster. BSA YOUTH PROTECTION POLICIES MUST BE ENFORCED AT ALL TIMES. For online Youth Protection Training and certification click here.

  2. You should complete an application as soon as possible. You can pick one up when you visit a Troop meeting. This will register you with the Boy Scouts of America. If you are currently registered, this will transfer you into the Troop. An initial fee of $25 is required for all newly registering Scouts. The initial fee for a graduating Webelos or a currently registered Boy Scout transferring from another troop is $1.

  3. You should complete a Personal Health and Medical Record as soon as possible. One is available on the Forms page. Troop 60 uses the Medical Exam Class 1 and 2 for all scouts, and adults under age 40. Medical Exam Class 3 is for scouts doing high adventure activities and for adults age 40 and above. Medical Exam Class 1 and 2 is good for 3 years. Medical Exam Class 3 is good for 1 year. These forms are required by the BSA and are carried on every outing so that we may properly provide emergency medical care if necessary.

  4. Uniforms are an important part of Scouting. You will be expected to wear the proper uniform to all Scout functions. You should refer to the Troop Rules webpage for the current uniform requirements.

  5. Scouts are expected to be on time for meetings and activities. We strive to end meetings on time so it is expected that Scouts are picked up on time as well.

  6. Scouts are expected to exhibit good behavior at all times. Discipline will be enforced. Scouts may be reprimanded, sent home, or suspended depending on the severity of the incident. Please be sure to read the Code of Conduct on the Troop Rules webpage.

  7. Scouts should purchase the Scout Handbook. They should bring the Handbook, paper, and pencil to every meeting.

The Troop welcomes parents who would like to help. Positions include: a) Committee Members who meet monthly, provide for the administration of the Troop, and provide for Boards of Review; b) Assistant Scoutmasters who meet weekly with the boys, go on outings, and provide ongoing guidance, counseling, and instruction; and c) Merit Badge Counselors who instruct individuals or groups in areas of their expertise. Adult registration is $10. Please contact the committee Chairman or the Scoutmaster if you would like to register.

A scouts parents/guardians are always welcome at any Troop meeting or outing if they register or not.

A personal equipment list is available on the Forms page. This provides a starting point for items Scouts need for the monthly outdoor activities. Any of the adult leaders can provide you with recommendations on specific items.

Welcome again!
